Ilinca Ciubotariu is the recipient of The Puskas Memorial Fellowship, a prestigious faculty-nominated fellowship awarded to graduate students who demonstrate outstanding performance and who maintain a connection to Romania. Ilinca comes to Purdue after completing an MHS at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and a BA at Columbia University. She is a first-year PhD student in Biological Sciences, conducting research in Dr. Giovanna Carpi’s lab. This fellowship will allow her to develop her research project that will investigate malaria transmission dynamics and how within-host interactions alter parasite diversity. She is very honored to receive this award, is immensely grateful for the support of her advisor and department, and continues to be proud of her Romanian heritage.
